Hello everyone! I had a great time at APE. Although I'll make an entry about that later (I apologize for the lateness ^^;), I have something important to talk about that's happening right now.

There's an artist named John T. Unger who is very talented and has a series of beautiful sculptures and bowls he created from metal called the 'Fire Bowl' collection. Unfortunately, an imitator who has been creating knock-offs of his work has sued him over copyrights so that he could gain the rights for John's own works too create more fakes. As an artist, I cannot accept or forgive this. While it seems hopeless, there is something that YOU can do to help defend him.

This weekend in San Francisco is going to be the 2009 Alternative Press Expo (APE)! While I'm not going to exhibit (sadly, I just found out about this the day AFTER the deadline for artists to reserve ;_;), you can find me there this Sunday. Just look for a blond with red glasses and who seems incredibly lost. I'll be carrying a portfolio of work for publishers to review and some business cards ~~hastily~~ made with love. Be sure to say hello if you bump into me! =)

Jeez, I'm pretty horrible about updating... =_=;

Again, for those of you who do take the time to visit this place, I apologize. I've been through a lot recently; I'm still looking for work (sadly no word from that place I had my interview at), and I just recently had a birthday last month on the 26th. I'm the big 22!

However, I've also recently opened a CafePress shop for my designs! It's called Electric Apple, and so far I have three designs available for purchase (one of them is a limited edition Halloween design that will only be in the store for this month!). If you like what you see, don't be afraid to take a t-shirt or a mug home! It can be a gift for a friend or family, or even just a small treat for yourself. There will be more designs on the way, so keep in touch!

Blogs That I Love: Final Girl

Since I haven't really had much to update about at the moment (I have called that place I was interviewed at, but since they're prepping for a convention I'll have to wait until they get a chance to breathe), I decided to actually do some writing. Thus, welcome to the first of possibly many entries: the "__ That I Love" series! It can be anything, from food, video games, websites, clothes, whatever comes to my mind. Today I thought I bring up blogs, and here's one that I just can't get enough of: Final Girl!

Final Girl is a blog dedicated to all things horror, ran by the witty and hilarious Stacie Ponder, a comic book inker and contributor for the spooky section of AMC's website. Stacie does reviews of scary movies on her blog, but while she does bring up the big-name horror (like Friday the 13th or Texas Chainsaw Massacre), she mostly focuses on the lesser-known horror that you find on VHS at your local record store for a quarter. Her reviews are hilarious and very entertaining, even for really awful flicks like Don't Go Into the Woods... Alone! (I kid you not, that's the real title; imdb it). Even if you're not a scary movie junkie like myself, you'll definitely find yourself digging through her blog to find more reviews due to her infectious humor and fantastic writing.

Speaking of movies, Miss Stacie is actually working on one herself! An independent horror short called Ludlow. She's really close to finishing it, but she actually needs a little help on special effects and making it nice and pretty. That's where you guys come in! Stop by her site and help a sistah (don't worry, I'll be using that word sparingly) out by dropping a couple bucks into the little Pay Pal coffee cup she's got. Hey, if you donate $10 you might even see your name in the credits and become famous (kinda)!

Hey everyone! I know I disappeared again, but I'm back and this time I decided to update my blog with some new features!

A PayPal button? I know I know, pretty shameless of me, but I just got out of college and the graphic designing and illustrating life style isn't as glamorous as it sounds (no, really!). Whew, another spell of busyness and life got in the way of me updating again! ^^;

Last week, I went down to San Diego for a job interview for a graphics internship at a t-shirt company. I was nervous, but I was excited because I've never been down to San Diego before and I really enjoyed myself there. The offices I had the interview at were really nice and a fun environment (every workspace has a ton of action figures and posters, haha). The staff were also really friendly and laid back, so I felt a little more at ease when they talked to me. I think it went well, and I just recently (actually about two hours ago XD;) I got an e-mail back from them asking me about if I would be able to relocate down there and how long it would take me. I'll be e-mailing them back later, so here's hoping this is a good sign!

Remember my Threadless entry? Well... I lost. ;_; Oh well, it happens. You can't strike gold on the first try I guess, so I'll have to try again. I do appreciate everyone who has voted and left comments for my first design entry! You guys are awesome!

Why the weird journal title? Well, they're actually the opening lyrics for YUKI's "Dramatic", the opening theme song for the Honey and Clover anime series. I'm really in love with this song, especially since the lead singer, Yuki Isoya, used to be the lead singer for Judy and Mary, a group my sister and I absolutely loved when I first got into Japanese culture over ten years ago (good lord, I feel old...)! What's new with me? A place I applied a while back finally contacted me! I know that I should still look around just in case, but I honestly hope this will be the job for me. It's pretty far away from where I'm living right now, but where it is I'm not complaining about. I need to move anyway, before I turn into one of those old ladies on a porch with a ton of cats and likes to loiter at Wal-Mart trying to return stuff for kicks. Let's hope this will be my big break! =)

Haha, this has mostly been a blog about me whining about my life more than my artwork hasn't it? I'm sorry you guys. XD;

Still looking for work, and I sadly still have to wait until I get my certificate. I've been jumping hurdles and playing phone tag with my community college, but it looks like it's going to take me longer to get it. Sigh.

A while back my sister introduced me to a pretty awesome site called Threadless, where artists submit shirt designs and the winning design gets printed and sold through their shop. I've had an account since 2006, but I've finally decided to just sit down and do a design instead of browsing the site thinking "gee... I should make a shirt, too!"! I decided to do an owl motif, inspired by a really cute picture I found on Livejournal of two really cute owls snugglin'. http://community.livejournal.com/splodefromcute/1049560.html

The design was drawn in Adobe Illustrator 10 and tweaked in Photoshop 7. They're still approving the design, so once that's finished I'll leave the vote and critique link up here. Wish me luck guys!

Crap, I forgot to update again didn't I? ^^;

For those of you who were waiting for that Fanime '09 report I promised, I like to apologize (again) for straying from here. To be honest, I've been a bit busy since I got back from San Jose. I'm waiting on the Art Department at Sierra College to look over some paperwork so that I can get my certificate in Applied Arts Multimedia (here's hoping it doesn't take long) and I've been job hunting for art and graphic design work. I've found a few places that are offering internships that I applied for, yet I should still keep looking around just in case.

Job hunting is honestly frustrating, especially if you're an art student trying to break into the business of graphic design or illustration. It's almost like giving your phone number to a person you like and you sit by the phone waiting for them to call you back while kicking yourself like a heartbroken high schooler. Although I guess it's kind of like that with any job you apply for, art-related or not. As sentimentally sappy as it sounds, I really hope that I can find the job for me because I want to finally get out and live on my own like a true adult. I'm living with my family at the moment and while I do love them, I don't want to stay here forever (or at least spend the rest of my 20's here). I want to be able to get my own apartment, maybe get myself a cat or a roommate to keep me company, and maybe I'll figure out what kind of person I really am once I get settled in my new town/city/village/etc.

Getting back to art, I picked up the "Go! Manga!!" issue of ImagineFX magazine and it came with a CD/DVD that had a demo of the English translated version of the Comicworks software by Deleter. I played around with it and created the cutie in the corner of this entry. The software felt a little like Open Canvas, except for the screen tone and ruler options. I like using it, but I wonder how I'm going to scrape together $100+ for the complete version... at least it's cheaper than CS4.

I know I just got back to updating, but I'm afraid that I'm going to have to go away again. I'm going up to San Jose with some friends to Fanime and I probably won't be back until sometime around Sunday or Monday. I promise that once I get back, though, I'll put up a new post with some artwork I'm planning on doing during the convention. I might even do a convention report! Stay tuned and stay classy.

I'd like to apologize to everyone who visits my blog... For the past few months or so I have been really busy with school and life in general to make updates on here. Thankfully my college classes are finished (and I passed! Yippie!!) which means I'll be able to put up more of my work on here.

This piece is from my digital painting class where we worked with Corel Painter X. I made this using the sponge brushes and the scratch board tool. I wanted to make it look like a sherry advert done by Alphonse Mucha, since I had found a really cool art book of his works in the campus library and it made me really inspired.

Art and Sketch Dump - 3/7/09

Hello everyone! Here's is the first of what I hope to be of many entries. Since I'm an artist trying to break into the business to gain some experience, I thought I would put up some of my work for you to take a look at. Here's a few things I've scraped up at the moment:

An old Christmas card I made for my sister about three years ago. I used Copic and Prismacolor markers with colored pencils and a dab of pastels to make this. Apparently bunnies have a hard time holding their drinks!

I did this back when I was in high school in 2006. I was goofing around with some watercolors when I came up with this cute painting of a baby Totoro (from Hayao Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro) relaxing on a grassy hill somewhere with a leaf umbrella. I really liked it so I kept it.

Another oldie, but not as old as the other two. Back in 2008 I had an idea for a web comic that never got off the ground, sadly. The main character gets a job at a maid cafe in Akihabara called Choco Rosa and these were some designs for possible maid costumes for the waitresses. The one with the long sleeves belonged to the main character, since she's the tallest. I really enjoyed designing these and I thought a brown and pink color scheme would be cute for maid dresses!
